Maple Walnut Cookies
INGREDIENTS
For the cookies:
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
¼ cup maple syrup
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
¾ cup Mariani Chopped Walnuts
For the maple glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1–2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350°F . Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in the chopped walnuts.
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon of milk. If needed, add more milk, a little at a time, until the glaze reaches a drizzle consistency.
Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies using a spoon or piping bag. Sprinkle some extra walnuts over the glaze if desired. Let the glaze set for about 15 minutes before serving.
